All the new homes that are built in California will now have solar panels. This will come into effect from 2020. There is going to be a vote coming up today. The California Energy Commission is looking to vote to pass a law that would need all the residential buildings that have up to three stories to compulsory install solar panels by 2020.

There are only 15% to 20% of the new homes in California that have solar panels installed. If this new law is passed, then there will many buildings that can turn into small power plants. In the long run, the energy grid of California will not be required to provide electricity generated from fossil fuel power plants. The electricity can be moved through the wind power and solar generators.

The current energy efficiency goal set by California in 2007 will be easily eclipsed if the solar mandate becomes a reality. The goal of this proposal is to make the residential homes to generate the electricity that they consume in a year on their own.

The solar mandate can help in arranging a steady supply of solar power. The residential buildings can use the 80% to 90% of the electricity generated through the solar panels and can use the grid only as a backup power source.
